Who has the best cloud storage?
An article by ewoodesign
Comments Off I’ve been thinking a lot about cloud storage lately. It’s nothing new, but its starting to catch on mostly due to Apple. They are touting it around like its something brand new. Which is basically what they’ve done with all of their products. (Mp3 players for example)
While they didn’t invent the MP3 player they did put it in a pretty package, and make the information digestible to everyone. Grandma has no idea what she can do with 16GB of hard drive space, but she does know it holds “A thousand songs”. That’s all that matters to people of this demographic. They’re doing the same thing with cloud storage but I’m pretty interested in it! Mostly for mobile applications. I’d love to integrate it with a car puter, but that’s another story. Let’s compare some cloud providers!
Apple iCloud
If you have an iDevice this may be the way to go. I have to admit that Apple has a beautiful way of making devices and software work seamlessly together. I’m sure the icloud will perform buttery smooth with my iPhone as well. You can acquire 5GB for free, but they also offer paid plans. With yearly prices that are actually pretty attractive for Apple.
Box
Box offers much the same plan as Apple. They are more business minded and reliable though. Touting clients such as MTV. If you need reliable business storage this is probably the option. They have larger plans and can accommodate large important files.
Drop Box
Probably the most popular option. They have apps for a variety of devices like Android. Their free plans offer only 2GB, but paid plans have large allowances. Even in the terrabytes for businesses.
Windows Sky Drive
While it may not be as fancy as Apple’s service they do offer the best bang for your buck! 25GB of storage for FREE? Whaaaat? Yes, Microsoft is offering 25GB at no cost to you on their network. Which you can use to sync files across all your computers, access them with your phone ect.
Amazon Cloud Drive
Amazon looks like they’re offering something very similar to what Apple has. 5GB of no questions asked space. I haven’t heard any special features that they are offering.
