Review: Playstation 3 (PS3) The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

Review: Elder Scrolls Skyrim PS3

I picked up Elder Scrolls: Skyrim for PS3 on release date, and I’m very happy with the game. It’s a fun game with lots of freedom. So, I thought I’d do a review of Skyrim for PS3. There’s a lot of things I enjoy about the game, and only a few minor grievances. There are some slight differences between the versions. I can’t comment on the Xbox 360 version, but I’ve been told there are many mods to extend game play for the PC version.

Elder Scrolls Skyrim Review PS3

Gameplay

I was really glad you could play in first and third person mode since I hate first person with a passion. The controls are nice, and easy to manage. I like the battle system, and the realism of running into enemies. If you’re not fond of the random battle type of game this is the opposite. All enemies can be seen, even heard, and avoided if need be. My only gripe about controls is that equipping a spell requires using a one handed weapon. Since I usually use a two hander it becomes a problem for me.

The freedoms in the game are awesome. You can interact with all of the NPCs. This leaves you the freedom to kill them, befriend them, ect. You are free to steal items as well. However, if you don’t make a clean get away you can be taken to jail. You can also anger citizens and they can attack you. I did this in the first town by killing the blacksmith’s son. (oops!)

Graphics/sound

The graphics and sound are stunning. There’s lush landscapes and environments for you to explore. Even the items are rendered in lovely 3d. They can be totally examined and turned. Everything from food items to armor was built with care and designed to be unique to the game.

Story Line

The story line is there, but it doesn’t contain you. Where many games make you accomplish tasks in a straight line there is none in Skyrim. After the tutorial quest you are free to explore as you please. The game will point you in the right direction, but you by no means have to go a long. There are lots of quests of varying lengths for you to complete. Usually resulting in a reward such as a new shout or items.

  • The world of Skyrim, created with a new creation engine has advanced far beyond any of the older Elder Scrolls games. Each and every landscape, mountain, terrain, and dungeons have all been completely hand crafted by the design team. That’s what I would have to say after I saw it played at a friend and co-worker’s house from DISH Network. I was told that this game has somewhere around 350 different spaces that construct this entire world, and that this game is perhaps the largest and most innovative video game of this generation, if not the largest video game of all time. I can’t wait to play it myself because I added it to my queue using my Blockbuster Movie Pass. The Movie Pass is what I use to rent and play all my games because buying them nowadays costs a fortune.
